Andreas Hoegberg Named All-America Scholar

May 24, 2005

ORLANDO - For the second consecutive year, UCF golfer Andreas Hoegberg has earned Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar honors for his accomplishments in the classroom and on the golf course.

Hoegberg, who graduated earlier this month with a degree in marketing, compiled 3.6 grade point average. He also excelled in golf, leading the Golden Knights with a stroke average of 72.87 en route to posting one win and seven top 10 finishes in 13 events this year.

"It is an honor to be selected to the team for a second consecutive year," Hoegberg said. "I put a lot of time and effort into succeeding as a student and an athlete and I'm fortunate that coach Clinard was very understanding when I had to adjust my practice schedule in order to study for an exam or presentation."

Hoegberg earned First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors this year, and was named Golfer of the Week by Golf World and Golfweek magazines after winning the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in February. He carded 13 sub-par rounds on the year, including eight rounds in the 60s.

"Andreas did a great job balancing his academic responsibilities with his desire to improve as a golfer," UCF coach Nick Clinard said. "He served as a great role model to his teammates, which was especially important this year because we had such a young squad."

Hoegberg is the first UCF golfer to earn All-America Scholar honors in consecutive years since Andrew Rice did so in 1990 and 1991. Prior to Hoegberg, the last golfer from UCF to earn All-America Scholar honors was Ben Osbrach in 2002.

UCF recently concluded the season with a 16th place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
