Play Suspended Due to Darkness at NCAA East Regional

May 19, 2005

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. - A two-hour weather delay coupled with a slow pace of play prevented the first round from being completed at the NCAA East Regional at the Golf Club of Tennessee Thursday. Play was suspended just before 8 p.m. due to darkness with six teams, including UCF still of the golf course.

The Golden Knights are tied for 10th place at 1-over-par with Georgia Tech, Clemson and Louisville, but still have several holes to play. Wake Forest shot a 13-under-par 271 and leads the 27-team field by three shots over North Carolina. The Tar Heels are in the same grouping with UCF and have holes to play.

Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers leads the event after firing a 6-under-par 65 Thursday. UCF freshman Ben Leong is tied for fifth at 4-under-par with four holes remaining, while senior Andreas Hoegberg is tied for 21st at 2-under-par with a birdie putt awaiting him on the 14th green when play resumes Friday.

The six teams that didn't finish their first round will resume play Friday morning at 7 a.m., followed by the teams that did finish beginning their second round at 7:30.
