OAKRIDGE, Tenn. - Despite inclement weather that caused a three-hour delay in competition, the UCF Varsity Eight and Novice Eight crews raced well enough on Saturday to advance to petite finals at the Aramark South/Central Sprints at Melton Hill Lake.
The Varsity Eight of Caitlin Pauls, Kyla Smith, Tanya Kleisler, Melissa Westhoff, Amy Price, Krystina Sarff, Katherine Motes, Mary Rosser, and coxswain Lisa Beltran opened the regatta by finishing third in its heat with a time of 6:34.79.
Racing against some of the regions top-ranked teams in their semifinal, the Knights finished sixth and advanced to the petite final on Sunday.
In similar fashion, the Novice Eight that consisted of Kayla Reiff, Erin Riegel, Vanessa Santana, Jessica Lorne, Laurel Elmore, Megan Kranz, Katrina Gavette, Katie Fulton and cox Jennifer Brooks took fourth in its heat. The boat then placed third in the repechage to earn a spot in the event's petite final.
Both the Junior Varsity Eight and Varsity Four will race in the third final.
The Aramark South/Central Sprints concludes on Sunday morning.
Results for the Lightweight Eight, which competed in the Dad Vail, were unavailable.
