UCF Spring Football Practice Report No. 9

April 8, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF football team finished its ninth practice of the spring in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts Friday morning in Orlando. The Golden Knights hit the field for just over two hours in preparation for Saturday's scrimmage.

"It looked like the light bulb came on with a bunch of kids as we continue with installation," stated UCF head coach George O'Leary. "The kids did some good things and stayed off the ground, which I think is very important. We moved well on the field today and I was pleased with the practice."

O'Leary and his coaching staff hosted a coaching clinic Friday for high school coaches from around the state of Florida. The two-day clinic continues Saturday when UCF holds its second spring scrimmage. The scrimmage runs from 10:05-12:15 p.m.

During Friday's practice session, the Golden Knights continued installing all three phases, including both goal line offense and defense.

"We took a step ahead today," O'Leary continued.

During the team periods of play Friday, both the offense and defense continued to make plays on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Steven Moffett continued his strong play this spring with a solid day of work throwing the football. In pass skeleton drills, Moffett was 10-of-14 passing, including a 25-yard strike to tight end Darcy Johnson over the middle.

Kyle Israel also looked good throwing the ball, completing 9-of-10 passes in the same period, including a fade pass to Javid James down the far sideline. James went high into the air to make the play of the day among the wide receivers.

The Golden Knights return to action Saturday at 10:05 a.m. The scrimmage is open to the media and public, but photographs and video are prohibited during the scrimmage session.
