UCF Spring Football Practice Report No. 7

April 5, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF football team completed its seventh practice of the spring under sunny skies Tuesday morning in Orlando. The Golden Knights hit the field in full pads for the first time since Saturday's scrimmage.

The majority of practice was spent in team periods along with some individual work mixed in along the way. UCF continued to install phases of its offense and defense, including blitz protection and blitzes on defense.

In the pass skeleton period Tuesday, junior quarterback Steven Moffett looked sharp throwing the football. Moffett completed 9-of-11 passes, including a 20-yard completion to Brandon Marshall with the first team offense.

Sophomore quarterback Kyle Israel was 7-for-10 passing, including two receptions to junior college transfer Javid James.

The offensive and defensive lines also batted each other in one-on-one drills, as the defensive linemen worked on their pass rush vs. the offensive linemen.

During the team periods, Mike Walker and Brooks Turner had two of the best receptions of the day with sliding catches from Moffett. Both Curtis Francis and Dontavius Wilcox also found success rushing up the middle, as both players made nice moves in the hole to make the defender miss.

The defense made several plays as well, including a four-yard tackle for loss by linebacker Randy Dozier. Keith Shologan and Leger Douzable also made two stops behind the line of scrimmage while Glenroy Watkins had a sack for the second team defense.

Redshirt freshman cornerback Johnell Neal worked with the first team defense and broke up two passes during the team period.

The Golden Knights continue spring drills Wednesday at 9:20 a.m.
