ORLANDO - UCF women's golf head coach Jill Fjelstul announced on Thursday that her program has received National Letters of Intent (NLI) from a pair of student athletes with local ties. Kristy McLaughlin from Daytona Beach Community College and May Tomimbang from Kissimmee both signed NLIs to attend UCF and join the Golden Knights golf program in the fall.
A native of Wasaga Beach in Ontario, Canada, McLaughlin is currently in her sophomore season at DBCC, where she plays for head coach Laura Brown. As a freshman, she helped her squad to the National Junior College Athletic Association title. She posted five top-10 finishes and earned All-America honors. This season, McLaughlin has already recorded two top-15 finishes.
"Kristy comes from a winning background. We are real excited about her joining our program," said Fjelstul. "She will add a competitive spirit to our team. She has also excelled in the classroom and is a true student-athlete."
Tomimbang will come to UCF after starring at Gateway High School. She was a three-time Orlando Sentinel Osceola County Player of the Year selection. During her prep career, Tomimbang made three consecutive trips to the state tournament and finished in eighth-place at the event in 2004.
"May is an outstanding junior player," said Fjelstul. "She is a consistent player who has been a top performer on the prep level and is also strong in the classroom. May brings the whole package - solid in athletics and academics."
After winning four league championships since 1990 in the Atlantic Sun, the Golden Knights will move to Conference USA next season.
