ORLANDO, Fla. - Jania Shinhoster was 5-for-6 at the plate as UCF defeated Belmont 2-0 in game one and 12-3 in game two. With the wins, The Golden Knights improved to 31-19-1 on the season and 4-2 in the Atlantic Sun, while Belmont fell to 9-19 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.
Shinhoster had one double, four singles, two RBI, two runs and two walks on the afternoon, while Cici Alvarez was 4-for-5 with four singles, two runs, two RBI and two walks. Lindsay Enders picked up the win in the circle for game one, while Ashley Baker picked up the win for game two.
UCF scored first in the bottom of the first when Bryttani Lindheim hit a sac fly to right field plating Shinhoster from third.
Enders' had a no-hitter going into the fourth until Kelly Major ripped a double into right center. The Bruins were unable to score Major in the inning.
The Knights plated another run in the bottom of the sixth when Alvarez singled to the shortstop, scoring Nikki Green from third.
Game one ended with UCF up, 2-0. Alvarez led the Black and Gold at the plate after going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI, while Shinhoster was 2-for-3 with one walk and one run. Enders picked up the win in the circle for the Golden Knights improving her record to 14-10 on the season.
Major had the only hit for Belmont, while Angie Hoeye (6-7) took the loss for the Bruins in the circle.
Game two started off with UCF plating three runs in the bottom of the first on five walks and one error. The Bruins replaced their starting pitcher, Jennifer Batte, with Holly Murphy after Batte walked the first four batters.
The Knights added eight more runs in the bottom of the second, topped off by a two-run home run by Crystle Krafft. UCF scored their eight runs on three walks, six singles, one double and one home run. At the end of the second inning, UCF was leading, 11-0.
Belmont put a two spot on the board in the top of the third on three singles. The Bruins followed the third inning up with one run in the top of the fourth when Heather Grossnickle led off with a double followed by two singles by Sara Peeples and Mandy Stanley.
UCF added one more run in the bottom of the fourth when Jennifer Tomasetti led off with a double and scored when Shinhoster singled to left center.
Belmont was unable to overcome UCF's nine-run lead in their half of the fifth, so the game ended after five with the Golden Knights up 12-3.
Shinhoster was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game two with three singles, one walk and two RBI, while Alvarez was 1-for-2 with one single and two walks. Baker picked up the win after pitching three innings and giving up three runs on six hits and three strikeouts.
Belmont had seven hits in game two by seven different women. Batte took the loss for the Bruins after pitching less than one inning giving up three runs on no hits and four walks.
UCF returns to the softball diamond Friday, March 8 when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on Campbell in a double header with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m. The Knights will then travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. where they will face Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
The Golden Knights return home on Saturday, March 23 when they host Jacksonville on Senior Day with the first pitch taking place at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all UCF softball games.
