AUGUSTA, Ga. - Freshman Giwon Suh shot a 3-over-par 75 Saturday to lead UCF as the Golden Knights shot a 27-over-par 315 and are in ninth place after the opening round of the Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Teams were scheduled to play 36 holes Saturday, but play was halted after 18 holes because of dangerously high wind gusts that were toppling trees. The teams will play 36 holes Sunday to complete the event.
East Tennessee State shot a 15-over-par 303 in difficult scoring conditions to take the early lead, followed by host Augusta State one shot behind. Georgia Southern, Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five in a field of 18 that features 10 teams ranked in the top 26 in the country.
Suh is tied for fifth in the individual standings, five shots behind East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies, who was the only player in the field of 90 players to break par. He shot a 2-under-par 70, followed by two players at even par and one at 2-over.
UCF Freshman Ben Leong is tied for 36th after shooting 79 Saturday, followed by junior Sonny Nimkhum who shot 80. He is tied for 47th after what was his first round of competition since October. Freshman Preston Brown shot 81 and is tied for 55th, while senior Andreas Hoegberg is tied for 80th after an opening round 84.
