NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With four events completed, the UCF women's track and field team held a four-point lead over the rest of the field at the 2005 Atlantic Sun Championship on Friday.
The Golden Knights, which have won the seven of nine titles - including the last five consecutive crowns, collected 35 points on day one of the competition. Troy followed in second with 31 points, while Jacksonville (21 points), host Belmont (13) and Georgia State (10) rounded out the top five.
Four Knights earned all-conference honors. In the first event of the day, junior Tiffany Roebuck grabbed her second consecutive A-Sun title in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.19 meters. Junior Rian Thomas was second at 47.12m. Finishing just out of contention for awards were sophomore Anna Baker in fifth place at 41.77m and freshman Kendra Howell in sixth at 40.50m.
In the long jump, junior Diana Chin earned all-conference honors for the third time in her career as she leaped to second place with a mark of 5.87m. Classmate Lynnsey Hicks was third at 5.64m.
Preliminaries also took place for the 100m and 100m hurdle events. Sophomore LaToya Green qualified in the 100m dash with a time of 12.26, while both Diana Chin and freshman Vicky Chin advanced in the 100m hurdles. Diana posted the second best time in the preliminaries at 14.12.
UCF freshman Allison Palmer capped off the evening with an 11th place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 39:44.81.
Competition at the Atlantic Sun Championships continues on Saturday at Vanderbilt Track.
