DELAND - Top-seeded UCF defeated No. 8 Mercer, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championship at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Friday morning. The Golden Knights advanced to the semifinal round for the 12th consecutive time.

The No. 66 Golden Knights (11-7) earned two quick victories to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Senior co-captain Kristina Lohmos and freshman Kyla McNicol grabbed an 8-0 win over Mercer's Rachel Kerley and Cali Sachs at No. 2 for their 10th consecutive victory. Meanwhile, UCF's No. 3 duo of sophomore Megan Hunter and freshman Anna Yakimchenkova beat Nicole Porterfield and Patricia Assumpcao, 8-1. The No. 1 match was left unfinished as the two teams switched focus to the singles competition.

Senior Ola Luczak continued the Knights' momentum by posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Karen Bellman at No. 3 singles, before McNicol defeated Kelly Blout, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 6 position.

Yakimchenkova clinched the match for UCF when she took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Porterfield at No. 5 singles. It was her third straight victory.

"Mercer was much improved and played a great match," said UCF head coach Patricia Allison. "We were happy to get the `W', but we still have a whole lot of tennis ahead of us."

The Golden Knights face No. 4 Florida Atlantic in the semifinals at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
