Women's Tennis Tops Marquette

March 29, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day in style as the Golden Knights defeated Marquette, 6-1, on Tuesday morning at the UCF Tennis Complex. It was UCF's second win over a Conference USA school this season.

The Knights (9-7) took immediate control by earning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Kristina Lohmos and freshman Kyla McNicol grabbed their eighth consecutive victory, while freshman Anna Yakimchenkova and Megan Hunter grabbed their second straight win.

UCF's momentum continued into singles play. Bolstered by her doubles win, Hunter made quick work of Domika Dabrowski at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-2, before Yakimchenkova gave the Knights a 3-0 lead by defeating Francina Bonnelly, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5.

Lohmos clinched the victory as she beat Callan Smith, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1. The win brought her career total to 69 - which ranks seventh all-time at UCF.

After earning wins at No. 2 and No. 4, the Golden Knights dropped their only point at No. 3 singles. Marquette's Elsemieke Doktor beat UCF senior Ola Luczak, 7-6, in the first set before dropping the second, 6-0. She eventually went on to win the tiebreaker by a score of 14-12.

Marquette dropped to 3-12 on the season.
