March 12, 2005

MIAMI BEACH - The UCF women's rowing openweight squad took three of four races against in-state rival the University of Miami at the Miami Invitational on Indian Creek Saturday morning.

The Varsity Eight, which featured Caitlin Pauls, Kyla Smith, Tanya Kleisler, Melissa Westhoff, Amy Price, Krystina Sarff, Katherine Motes, Mary Rosser and coxswain Kim Swift, defeated host UM by 13 seconds with a time of 7:11.33. It was the second time this season that Golden Knights beat the Hurricanes as they defeated UM at the Head of the Chattahoochee last fall.

UCF also grabbed victories in the Junior Varsity Eight and Novice Eight, but fell short by five seconds in the Varsity Four.

Meanwhile, the Lightweight Eight settled for second against Villanova's Varsity Eight at the Rollins Tri-Meet with a time of 6:52.8. The Junior Varsity Four was also second and the Novice Lightweight Eight finished third.

Next up, the UCF rowers travel to Fellsmere on March 19 to face Columbia and FIT.
