No. 26 Baseball Earns Series Sweep of Campbell, 9-3

ORLANDO - Sophomore pitcher Tim Bascom recorded his third straight game with double-figures in strikeouts with 10 to lead No. 26 UCF to a 9-3 victory and series sweep of Campbell Saturday evening at Jay Bergman Field. The Golden Knights shutout the Camels 18-0 earlier Saturday to sweep the doubleheader.

UCF improved to 19-3 with the win, the best start ever after 22 games in school history. The Golden Knights are 3-0 in the A-Sun while Campbell is 9-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Bascom struck out 10 batters in 6.0 innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. Over his last three starts, Bascom has 37 strikeouts for the Golden Knights.

In the first inning, Dee Brown delivered his third home run of the day with a solo blast to center field to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead. Brown hit two home runs in the first half of the day-night doubleheader Saturday and now has four home runs vs. the Camels in the series. Later in the inning, Ryan Bono lined a double to right field, scoring John-Michael Howell, to give UCF a 2-0 advantage.

UCF continued its trend of early scoring vs. the Camels in the second as Matt Ray lined a single into left field to pad the UCF lead to 3-0.

UCF added another run in the fourth before Campbell answered with two in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Golden Knights got two runs back on one swing as John-Michael Howell crushed a two-run home run off the scoreboard in right field to give the Golden Knights a 6-3 lead. Chandler Rose added a two-run double and Matt Ray drove home Rose on a double of his own to extend the lead to 9-3.

Bono, Howell, and Marshall Bernhard all had two hits for UCF while Rose was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Brian Brooks pitched the game's final 3.0 innings for his second save of the season.

The Golden Knights return to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. vs. Columbia at Jay Bergman Field.
