GAINESVILLE, Fla. - UCF's men's golf team shot rounds of 283 and 301 Saturday and is in seventh place at 24-over-par after the first day of competition at the SunTrust Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the University Golf Course. Wake Forest leads the 15-team field heading into Sunday's final round at 17-over-par.
Freshman Chris Anderson, playing in his first collegiate event, carded a pair of 1-over-par 71s Saturday and is tied for eighth place, two shots behind LSU's Heath West and Florida's Brett Stegmaier., who share the lead at even-par-140.
Led by freshman Giwon Suh's tournament-leading 2-under-par 68, UCF shot the low round of the day with a 3-over-par 283 and held a three-stroke advantage over Wake Forest after the morning round. The Golden Knights dropped to seventh after coming in at 21-over-par in the afternoon.
Suh shot 78 in the afternoon and is tied for 22nd at 6-over-par. Senior Andreas Hoegberg and freshman Ben Leong are tied for 29th at 8-over-par.
Florida and UAB trail Wake Forest by one shot, while South Carolina is two back and Florida State and LSU are six shots back.
