ORLANDO - Nick Clinard's men's golf team at UCF will get its first taste of competition for the spring semester at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville this weekend. UCF is one of 15 teams in the strong field that will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 holes Sunday.
Clinard will be taking a young lineup with him to Gator country as three freshmen, one sophomore and one senior will tee it up. Chris Anderson (Lake Mary, Fla./Seminole HS) will be making his competitive debut for the Golden Knights, while fellow freshmen Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) and Ben Leong (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) will be playing as well. Those three will be joined by sophomore Steven Bain (Orlando, Fla./Trinity Prep) and senior Andreas Hoegberg (Sollentuna, Sweden).
Hoegberg led the team during the fall with a 72.13 stroke average and four top 10 finishes in five events. Suh played in four fall events and posted one top 10 finish, while Bain played in three events with one top 20. It will be the second tournament for Leong.
UCF will be looking to improve upon its 11th-place tie from a year ago in Gainesville. Heogberg tied for 37th in the individual standings, while Bain tied for 70th.
After returning from Gainesville, UCF will be back in action Feb. 14-15, when it hosts the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando.
