Men's Golf in 13th After Round One of the Mercedes

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Senior Andreas Hoegberg shot a 1-over-par 73 Sunday as the Golden Knights carded a team score of 13-over-par 301 and are tied for 13th after the opening round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Country Club.

Defending champion South Carolina leads the 18-team field after shooting an opening round 2-under-par 286. The Gamecocks lead LSU by two shots and Tennessee by five, while Florida and UCLA round out the top five six shots behind.

In addition to Hoegberg's score, UCF got identical 4-over-par 76 rounds from freshmen Preston Brown, Giwon Suh and Ben Leong to make up the 301 total.

Five players are tied for the individual lead at 2-under-par. Hoegberg's 73 puts him in a tie for 27th, followed by Brown, Suh and Leong tied for 50th. Fellow UCF freshman Chris Anderson shot 6-over-par 78 and is tied for 78th.

Play resumes Monday with the second of three rounds.
