BOCA RATON- The UCF women's tennis team beat host Florida Atlantic, 4-3, in its Atlantic Sun opener on Saturday morning.
The Golden Knights (2-5, 1-0 A-Sun) made dramatic comebacks at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point. Junior Pamela Fernandez and sophomore Becky Gordon were down 6-3 to Veronica Koksova and Claudia Kecht, before rebounding to take a 9-8 win. Meanwhile, Lady Owls Krystal Borg and Katherine Bartnik went up 6-3 on the UCF duo of sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter and freshman Kyla McNicol. The Knights won the match 8-6.
In singles competition, Fernandez took a close 7-6, 6-4 victory over Koksova at No. 2, while freshman Jennifer Carati defeated Bartnik by a score of 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
McNicol extended her winning streak to three matches with a 6-7 (11-9), 6-2, 6-3 victory over FAU's Pia Terol at No. 6.
UCF improved to 18-7 all-time against Florida Atlantic, which dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the A-Sun.
The Golden Knights visit No. 10 Miami on Sunday for a noon match.
