TALLAHASSEE - No. 42 ranked Florida State shut out UCF, 7-0, in women's tennis action at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. It was the Golden Knights (0-4) fourth consecutive loss to a ranked opponent this season.
Winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores, the Seminoles (1-1) claimed the doubles point then earned an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
FSU continued to roll as the singles competition began. At the No. 6 position, Amber Tantee beat UCF sophomore Becky Gordon, 6-0, 6-1, before the `Noles took wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 3 to solidify the victory.
After losing the first set 6-3 to Tapiwa Marobela, UCF sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter stretched the second set to 13 games. Marobela, who was down by a score of 2-5, battled back and grabbed the 7-6 decision for the win at No. 5.
Meanwhile, at the No. 2 position, FSU's Lindsay Deason and UCF's Pamela Fernandez split sets before Deason beat Fernandez in the tiebreaker, 10-5, to earn the sweep.
The Golden Knights return to the courts on Feb. 15 for a 1:30 p.m. match against Morgan State at the UCF Tennis Complex.
