TUCSON, Ariz. - UCF freshman right-handed pitcher Taylor Meier was named to the 2004 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team, as announced by Collegiate Baseball News Friday. Meier is the seventh UCF player to be named to the prestigious team and the first since Dee Brown and Clay Timpner were both honored in 2002.
Meier had an outstanding season as the team's No. 4 starter. The Altamonte Springs native finished the year 6-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 74.0 innings. Meier was part of a pitching staff that ranks 11th in the NCAA in ERA after posting the nation's 46th best ERA as of June 6.
Meier yielded just 59 hits in 74 innings along with 56 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .223 off the freshman right-hander. Meier finished third on the team in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and ERA, behind the All-American duo of Matt Fox and Kyle Bono.
