UCF Varsity Eight Second at Head of the Chattahooc

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Led by a second place finish by the varsity eight, the UCF women's rowing team performed well against top competition at the Head of the Chattahoochee on Saturday morning.

The varsity eight of Caitlin Pauls, Kyla Smith, Tanya Kleisler, Kristin Roach, Amy Price, Krystina Sarff, Katherine Motes, Mary Rosser and coxswain Lisa Beltran finished with a time of 17:45.6 to place second. The Texas `A' crew earned top honors at 17:16.6, but the Golden Knights defeated the Texas `B' boat as well as crews from Kansas, Miami and Clemson.

UCF's second varsity eight placed 13th in the event with a time of 18:50.2.

Meanwhile, in the women's club eight event, the UCF lightweight eight boat - which features Robin Capers, Melissa Kroll, Lindsay Wood, Janae Corrado, Pamela Wall, Lauren Rice, Kelli Creighton, Laura Brad and coxie Nicole Stewart - finished fifth at 18:08.4 and the second UCF entry was fifth at 18:30.7. Cincinnati's `A' boat was first at 17:42.3.

UCF's varsity has finished their fall competition, but the Knights' novice crew will compete in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Fall Regatta in Fellsmere on Nov. 13.
