ORLANDO – Junior Matt Fox tallied a career-high 14 strikeouts in seven shutout innings to lead UCF to a 13-0 victory over Monmouth Friday evening at Jay Bergman Field. Fox (3-0) tossed a career-high 7.0 innings en route to his third victory of the season.

The Golden Knights set season-highs in runs (13), hits (13) and strikeouts (16) in their first shutout win of the season. With the victory, UCF improved to 7-3 while the Hawks dropped to 1-3.

Fox cruised early, retiring 17 of the first 18 batters he faced. He did not yield a hit until the sixth inning in his longest outing of his career.

The UCF offense exploded for seven runs through the first two innings to give Fox all the support he needed.

Junior Marshall Bernhard drove in a career-high four RBI in his first career start in the cleanup spot in the batting order. Junior Dee Brown drove in three runs, including a two-run triple in the first inning to start the UCF scoring.

Fellow junior Chandler Rose also had a big night, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Rose needed just a home run to hit for the cycle in his final at bat and was one of four Golden Knights with multi-hit games.

The Golden Knights return to the diamond Saturday at 1 p.m. for the second game of the series vs. Monmouth.
