TUCSON, Ariz. – A pair of UCF freshmen outfielders, Dee Brown and Clay Timpner, have been named to the Collegiate Baseball News Freshmen All-American Team. UCF was the only school to have two outfielders named to the freshmen All-American squad.
Brown was the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and was a first-team all-conference team member. For the season, Brown hit .397 and led the Knights with 56 RBIs and 111 total bases. He was also the A-Sun’s top hitter in conference games only with a remarkable .490 average.
Timpner was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team along with Brown after hitting .361 with five home runs and 47 RBIs. A midseason freshmen All-American selection by Baseball America, Timpner led all UCF players with a .524 slugging percentage in 2002.
