Williams continued to make a bid as one of the best pitchers in the nation, running his record to 6-1 and dropping his already miniscule ERA with the afternoon blanking of the Golden Knights. Despite throwing his third consecutive complete game shut out, Williams did have a slight control problem, offering up five walks and only striking out four.

Juan Menendez bunted him over to third and he was bale to stroll home on a Josh Johnson RBI single up the middle. The Dolphins added one to their lead an inning later with some help form the UCF defense. UCF made two errors in the inning allowing the man that scored to reach on a booted ball on the infield.

Taylor Cobb had a decent outing for his first collegiate start, but with no run support was tagged with the loss. Cobb lasted five innings, giving up four runs, three earned on six hits. He came out to start the sixth but only faced two batters. The Dolphins third and fourth runs came off the bat of Chad Oliva who hit a two run home run to left field, forcing Cobb from the game. UCF’s Dee Brown extended his hitting streak to 14 games going 2-for-2, while Clay Timpner and Blaine Schulte were the only other two Knights to record a hit in the game.

Mincks threw better than he had to, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out three. The UCF bats came alive in the last game of the series as they forced Jacksonville to use four pitchers. UCF got to Starter Ryan Courson for three runs, two earned as the shaky JU defense committed its seventh error of the series. UCF got on the board first, starting the second with two singles and taking advantage of the one error in the game.

Courson settled down until the fifth when he exited with one out and runners on first and third. Kris Regas did not get the job done as he gave up a triple to Brown, scoring two runs and making the score 3-0. Brown would come home when the next man up singled to left field. His triple extends his hitting streak to 15 games.

The Knights struck one more time in the sixth when Mike Myers took JU’s third pitcher if the night deep with the bases loaded for UCF’s second grand slam of the season. Myers shot gave the Knights some insurance as JU scored one run in the fifth and sixth. Timpner and Ty Hanson both went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored.
