ORLANDO - Catcher Jeremy Frost (Oviedo HS) went 2-for-4, drove in two runs and scored twice in leading UCF (5-6) to a 12-2 win against Charleston Southern (2-13) Wednesday afternoon. It was the second win in as many days for UCF against the Buccaneers, closing out a two-game series.
Charleston Southern put one run on the board in the top of the first to take an early lead. UCF countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Golden Knights then scored four runs in the second inning and put the game out of reach with five runs in the fifth.
Starting pitcher Burt Clark (Malabar/Palm Bay) struck out eight batters and gave up two hits in five innings of work en route to picking up the win and evening his record at 1-1.
A total of 10 players for UCF combined to pound out 15 hits, 14 of them against starting Buccaneer pitcher Matt Rhodes, who picked up the loss. Designated hitter David Mann (Columbus, Ga.) collected the most hits with his 3-for-3 performance. Mann drove in one RBI and scored two runs. Blaine Schulte (Oviedo HS) entered the game as a pinch hitter and picked up a pair of RBI, as did Dee Brown (Brooksville/Hernando HS).
UCF will travel to Greenville, N.C, this weekend for a three-game series with East Carolina, ranked 23rd by Baseball America.
