Sophia Cheros joined the UCF sports performance department in July 2024 and works closely with the rowing, track, and tennis teams.
Born and raised in Orlando, Cheros returned home after most recently working at George Washington University (2022-2024) and Georgetown University (2023-2024) in Washington, DC. As a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, they served as the primary coach for George Washington’s women's rowing and men’s/women’s track and cross country while assisting with women's gymnastics and softball. At Georgetown, they were the primary sports performance coach for field hockey, women's lacrosse, and women's golf while assisting with football, men's lacrosse, and men's soccer.
Previous to GW and Georgetown, they interned at Denison University (Ohio), assisting with all varsity athletics. They also interned at Clemson University with Olympic Sports, working primarily with men’s/women’s soccer, baseball, men’s/women’s track and field, and volleyball.
Cheros was a member of the Denison University women’s basketball team and served as captain their senior year in 2022 before earning a bachelor’s degree in health, exercise and sport studies. Cheros went on to earn a master’s degree from George Washington University in exercise science with a focus on strength and conditioning.
They are a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), and a Level 1 Weightlifting Coach through USA Weightlifting.
