Ryan Silverfield is in his second season as a graduate assistant at UCF and his first year working with the Knights' defense. He spent the 2006 campaign as UCF's offensive graduate assistant.
In 2005, Silverfield served as the quarterbacks coach at Jacksonville University. Prior to working on the Dolphins' staff, at the age of 23, he was the head coach at Memorial Day High School in Savannah, Ga.
Before becoming a head coach on the prep level, the Jacksonville native spent four seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Silverfield started as an offensive assistant in 2000. Then at the age of 20, he became the defensive line coach, at that time possibly making him the youngest position coach in all of college football. He coached the defensive line for two seasons.
In 2003, Silverfield coached the tight ends and H-backs. The Tigers went 9-1 and had the No. 1 scoring offense in the country, averaging over 47 points per game.
Silverfield started his coaching career as an assistant at The Bolles School in Jacksonville in 1999, following a four-year playing career with the Bulldogs. During his playing days at Bolles, they won two state championships and at one time held the title as the No. 1 high school team in the country according to USA Today. As a senior, Silverfield was a first-team All-First Coast selection after leading his team to the Florida Class 3A state championship.
He graduated cum laude and earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Hampden-Sydney in 2003.
