Miles Aldridge has more than 25 years of collegiate coaching experience as he is set to embark on his third season as defensive backs coach for the Golden Knights. A former defensive coordinator for a combined 10 seasons at four different schools, Aldridge has served at Clemson and South Carolina as a defensive coordinator during his coaching career.
In 2005, Aldridge helped cornerback Joe Burnett post one of the best freshman seasons in UCF history.
The cornerback was a Conference USA All-Conference First Team pick after totaling five interceptions and 63 tackles. Burnett, who received Freshman All-America recognition from numerous media outlets, ranked second in C-USA and 26th nationally in interceptions per game.
Under Aldridge[apos]s tutelage, safety Jason Venson was also named to the conference all-freshman team. The redshirt freshman recorded three interceptions and a team-high 85 tackles. In total, UCF[apos]s defensive backs had 13 interceptions in 2005.
In his first season at UCF in 2004, Aldridge[apos]s defensive backs totaled 10 interceptions after UCF[apos]s defensive backs recorded just two interceptions in 2003.
Aldridge molded four first-year defensive players into starters with a rash of injuries to the safety and cornerback positions.
Prior to UCF, Aldridge served as the defensive backs coach at Buffalo in 2003. Prior to his stint with the Bulls, Aldridge worked in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills as linebackers coach.
Before spending two seasons on the Bills[apos] staff, Aldridge was the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Middle Tennessee as that program moved up to Division I-A in 1999. Prior to that, he was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Louisiana-Lafayette (1998-99).
Aldridge was also the defensive coordinator at Arkansas, renewing acquaintances with longtime college head coach Danny Ford, for the 1996-97 seasons. The Razorbacks were 12th in the nation in rushing defense in 1996.
The Columbia, S.C. native has spent the most time in his coaching career at Clemson, where he was the defensive coordinator for the Tigers from 1994-96 and served as inside linebackers coach from 1985-89 under Ford. In his eight years at Clemson, the Tigers played in seven bowl games and claimed three Atlantic Coast Conference championships. His 1987 Tigers[apos] defense ranked second in the nation in rushing defense and fifth in total defense.
Aldridge, a 1971 graduate of Gardner-Webb in North Carolina, has also coached at South Carolina (1990-93), North Carolina State (1989-90), Duke (1983-84), Mississippi (1980-82), Tulsa (1979-90), Wichita State (1978-79) and East Tennessee State (1973-77). He began his coaching career in 1971 at Chase High School in North Carolina.
In addition to his professional experience with the Bills, Aldridge also spent a summer camp working with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
