Herb Hopkinson currently serves as Interim Director for Academic Services for Student-Athletes. He joined the UCF family in October 2013 as an Associate Director for ASSA. In addition to leading the department, he serves as the lead advisor for the football team, working mostly with the offense and specialists. During Hopkinson's tenure working with football, the team has secured two consecutive American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards – given to the team with the highest GPA in the conference.
Hopkinson came to UCF after a successful stint as a football academic advisor at Temple University, where he helped Temple football achieve new academic heights. During Hopkinson's tenure, the Owls reached program highs in APR and team GPA and continued a culture of academic success. He also helped coordinate the teaching of the UNVS 1001 and 1002 (University Seminar) courses for incoming freshman football students-athletes during the summer.
Prior to his time at Temple, Hopkinson worked at Texas Tech University as an Assistant Learning Specialist/Tutor Coordinator. He coordinated the tutorial services as well as the study hall for student-athletes. Hopkinson also worked in the Academic Enrichment Center as a Graduate Assistant for Student-Athlete Development, while earning his master's degree from the University of South Florida in Higher Education.
