Head Coach Rich Wallace has announced Cullen Smith as the program’s infield coordinator.
Smith comes to UCF from Florida Southwestern State College where he was an assistant coach for two seasons.
Smith helped the Bucs to their best season in program history last year, winning their first Citrus Conference and FCSAA State Championships while reaching the Juco World Series for the first time. The Bucs tied a program record with 44 wins in their FCSAA Championship Game win to punch their ticket to Grand Junction. The Bucs spent the entirety of the 2025 regular season ranked inside the Top 25 of the NJCAA rankings, reaching as high as No. 2, the highest ranking in program history. Smith's offense continued to break records as they set new program marks for batting average (.334), hits (642), runs (534), and on base percentage (.442).
Smith's impact on the Bucs hitters was felt immediately in 2024 as the Bucs shattered a number of offensive program records while Victor Figueroa became the first FSW hitter in program history to be named the FCSAA Player of the Year, the FCSAA Male Athlete of the Year, and a 1st Team NJCAA All-American before being drafted by the San Diego Padres in July. The Bucs broke all-time team records for batting average, hits, home runs, slugging percentage, and on base percentage while FSW individual single season records for batting average, runs scored, hits, and RBIs were broken under Smith's watch. FSW went 37-21 overall, reaching the FCSAA State Final Four for the first time in three seasons. A program record 12 players signed at the NCAA Division I level including seven to the Power 4 level.
He came to FSW after spending two seasons on staff with the Razorbacks and head coach Dave Van Horne as a student assistant coach, helping the Hogs to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances as well as a trip to the College World Series in 2022. In his two seasons on the Arkansas staff, the Razorbacks went 89-39 overall and 38-22 in SEC action.
After playing his first three years at East Tennessee State University, Smith transferred to Arkansas for his senior season in 2021 to play for the Hogs. He made the most of that opportunity, playing in 51 games for the Razorbacks, hitting .263 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. Smith came up big when the Hogs needed him the most, hitting .357 with three homers and seven RBIs to lead Arkansas to its first SEC Tournament Championship. In game one of the Fayetteville Super Regional, Smith put together a four RBI game to help the Hogs past North Carolina State.
At East Tennessee State, he was a two-time All-SoCon selection while posting a career batting average over .300 with nine home runs.
