A former FBS student-athlete who transitioned into collegiate athletics administration in 2015, Carlos McCants joined UCF Athletics in 2021. He serves as Associate Athletics Director for the ChargeOn Fund and Varsity Knights.
McCants came to UCF after spending the previous six years at Arkansas State working in multiple roles, including Director of Development and Lettermen Relations for nearly three years before being elevated to Assistant Athletics Director for Development in 2018, while also continuing to oversee the Lettermen Relations position.
He was a key component to Arkansas State’s school-record fundraising totals during his time with the program, helping the athletics department budget reach an all-time high. McCants oversaw and helped secure numerous major gifts, sponsorships and naming-rights projects, contributing to new-construction funding and the Red Wolves Foundation annual fund that’s applied to student-athlete scholarships and much more.
A four-year football letterman and team captain who won three Sun Belt Conference championships, McCants flourished in his Lettermen Relations role as he developed relationships with and new initiatives for former Arkansas State student-athletes. Under his direction, the Arkansas State Lettermen’s Club set new records for both membership and revenue generation.
In fact, the Lettermen’s Club school-record revenue increased by over 1,000 percent and membership numbers sky-rocketed by more than 200 percent with McCants' involvement.
His performance in both the development and letterman relations areas helped Arkansas State significantly increase resources for its athletics program that won the Sun Belt Conference’s all-sports award in 2020 for the first time since 1997-98.
A Mobile, Alabama, native, McCants played under four different head football coaches – Steve Roberts, Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzahn and Bryan Harsin – while earning his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Arkansas State University in 2013. He was an Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll member and went on to earn his master’s degree from ASU in 2015.
McCants and his wife Veronica reside in Orlando.
