Matt Goodyear returns to the Knights as the director of baseball operations for 2010-11. The Melbourne native pitched for four seasons for UCF, and his year-by-year breakdown in a Black and Gold uniform is below.
2010 (Senior): Earned two starts on the hill in four overall appearances, posting an 8.64 ERA with four strikeouts in 8.1 innings...Tossed a career-high 4.2 innings with two strikeouts in a start vs. JU (5/11)...Made the start at B-CU (3/31), striking out one in 1.1 innings...Sat down one on strikes in a scoreless inning against Hartford (3/14).
2009 (Junior): Entered from the bullpen in 11 games, sitting down 11 on strikes in 13.1 frames...Pitched a scoreless eighth inning at USF (March 10)...Struck out two in 1.1 innings against Hartford (March 15)...Surrendered only one hit and no earned runs while striking out four in 2.2 innings vs. JU (March 24)...Hurled 0.2 hitless innings at Stetson (May 12).
2008 (Sophomore): Was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in five appearances, including one start...Added 12 strikeouts in 9.1 innings...Tossed a perfect ninth inning to close the door on a win over FAMU in the season-opener (Feb. 22)...Pitched 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts against Pittsburgh (March 11)...Made first collegiate start vs. Wagner (March 19) and also earned first UCF win by tossing 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and just one earned run while working on a pitch count...Fanned one and did not give up an earned run in 0.2 innings at USF (April 29).
2007 (Freshman): Made three appearances out of the bullpen, fanning five batters in 3.0 innings...Struck out a batter in 0.2 innings of work vs. Stetson (May 2)...Made first appearance vs. Maryland (Feb. 16), going 2.0 innings with four strikeouts, including sitting down the side on strikes in the ninth inning.
Prior to UCF: Pitched for Eau Gallie High School...Was a three-year letterwinner on the baseball team, while also playing quarterback on the football team during the first two years of high school...Listed as one of the top 100 players of the Class of 2006 by Baseball America...As a junior, struck out 106 batters to rank third in the central-Florida area...Posted a 1.67 ERA en route to leading the team to a 26-5 record and a Class 5A playoff berth as a freshman...Member of the Florida Bombers who won the 2005 World Wood Bat national title...Made the World Wood Bat Underclass All-Tournament Team in 2003...Played for the 2002 AAU national champion Florida Hitmen.
