Prior to UCF: Drafted in the 28th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox...Lettered all four years at Durant High School...Was a St. Pete Times first-team all-Hillsborough County selection...Participated in the All-American Baseball Game with the top seniors in the country during 2006 in New Mexico...At the Saladino Tournament in Tampa, which is one of the top high school showcases in the country, posted a 6-1 record with a 0.79 ERA and set a tournament record with 32 strikeouts in a two-game span...Ranked as one of the top 50 prospects in the country and the top lefty in the state of Florida...Went 5-0 with a 1.02 ERA as a junior, sitting 82 down on strikes in 46 innings and giving up just eight hits in six starts...Also went .414 at the plate...Pitched for the USA Baseball Junior National Team during the summer of 2005, making two appearances and striking out four in 5.2 innings...One of 14 recipients of an AAU Journey Award in 2005 for outstanding achievement in academics and athletics.
