GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In head coach Gabe Lazo’s first road test of his UCF tenure, the UCF women’s basketball team (1-1) fell to RV Florida (2-0) in Gainesville, Fla. Thursday night, 95-65.
QUICK HITS
- Mahogany Chandler-Roberts recorded a career-best 20 points on the evening, doing so with just one free throw awarded.
- Vittoria Blasigh scored a season-high 18 points, evenly balanced with three made triples and seven made shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Mahogany Chandler-Roberts show for the first half, with the junior cashing in on an and-one to open up the scoring for UCF. She poured in 11 crucial points in the first 20 minutes of the contest, going 5-for-7 from the floor and knocking in her lone awarded free throw. Chandler-Roberts added a block and four defensive rebounds to her line in the opening half.
A Vittoria Blasigh three-pointer brought the Knights’ scoring drought in the second quarter to a close, getting herself wide open to receive the inbound pass from Caitlyn Jones. After struggling in the first quarter, she was able to cash in for five points in the second segment, along with two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
After playing a competitive first half, the Gators took over in the third, jumping out to a 30-point lead five minutes in and holding on throughout. The Knights pushed back with a nine-point run of their own, but foul trouble switched the momentum back to the home team.
Jones continued to show her explosive play in the beginning of the fourth, grabbing a quick steal 10 seconds in and converting it into a layup. The sophomore recorded her second double-figure scoring outing in as many contests with 10 points against the Gators, dishing out four assists and grabbing a steal as well.
