Hansen Wins Third Straight Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week Honor

by Ryan Ladika

ORLANDO – The author, once again, of a prolific showing on the offensive end of the pitch during the Knights’ final two regular-season games, Drew Hansen has been tabbed the Sun Belt Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.

The honor clinches the third consecutive week that has seen Hansen garner Offensive Player of the Week honors, placing the Knights forward in an exclusive club that has seen just eight other players in Sun Belt men’s soccer history earn three weekly league honors in the same season, a feat not accomplished since Georgia State’s George Proctor earned three Defensive Player of the Week selections in 2020.

Hansen also becomes the first player in Sun Belt men’s soccer history to earn a weekly award in three consecutive weeks, and the selection represents Hansen’s third career Sun Belt weekly award recognition overall, all having come in the last three weeks.

The Cleveland, North Carolina native clinched UCF’s 12th overall weekly conference award since joining the Sun Belt in 2023 as well, and the program’s sixth Offensive Player of the Week selection in that span.

In receiving his third straight weekly honor, Hansen produced arguably his best week yet, leading the Sun Belt in total points (8) and goals (3), and sharing the league lead in total assists (2) between UCF’s two matchups against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.

Against the Panthers in the Knights’ home finale, Hansen produced his second six-plus-point game of the season, recording his fourth brace of the year while adding a pair of assists to lead the Knights to their 5-1 win.

The effort marked the forward’s second straight match with multiple goals, as well as his third such showing in four games, and the first of his two goals also represented his fourth game-winning goal of the year.

Hansen then came through for his squad yet again at Georgia Southern in the team’s regular-season finale, scoring his fifth game-winning goal of the year in the 59th minute. The match gave the forward three straight contests with a game-winning goal, and five games in a six-match span with at least one goal overall.

He now enters postseason play boasting a single-season career best 12 goals and three assists, and his five game-winners rank tied for most in Division I soccer with five other players. Hansen also leads the Sun Belt Conference in goals per game (0.75), points per game (1.69), total goals (12), and total points (27).
