ORLANDO – Alysiah Lockette found the back of the net in the first half and Naomi Clark followed with a goal of her own in the second half to lift UCF women’s soccer to a 2-0 victory over No. 17 Colorado in the team’s annual Space Game on Friday night at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The Knights picked up three points as it improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Big 12 play with the shutout, while the Buffaloes dropped to 8-3-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in conference play with the setback. The win marked UCF’s first of the season in conference play and moved the team to 2-0-1 on the year against nationally ranked opponents.

“I’m really glad we were able to bounce back after a rough trip to Utah last weekend. Colorado is a great team, and I knew we had it in us. We just needed to come together and get back to Orlando. We appreciate everybody’s support, and I think being home made a big difference for us,” said UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak.

With UCF on the attack early in the match, Lockette put the Knights on the board in the 14th minute by netting her second goal of the season. Kalena Bellini fed a through ball into the box that went past Clark and right to the feet of the Colorado Springs, Colorado, native who finished to give the Black and Gold an early 1-0 advantage.

With the Knights carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime, UCF continued to dictate play early in the second half. Clark generated a pair of shots on goal just over a minute after the restart as the Black and Gold looked to extend their advantage.

Just minutes later, Clark doubled UCF’s advantage with a sensational individual effort. After winning the ball back from a Colorado defender near the top of the 18-yard box, the Parker, Colorado, native dribbled around her marker and unleashed a shot into the top corner of the net for her Big 12-leading ninth goal of the season, giving the Knights a 2-0 lead.

The Knights controlled the tempo from there and allowed just three shots from Colorado the rest of the way en route to recording their third shutout of the season.

In all, UCF outshot Colorado, one of the nation’s most potent offensive teams, 14-8 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal. Clark paced the Knights with a team-high four shots, including three on target, while fellow Colorado native Lockette added three shots, two of which were on frame, to help lead the Black and Gold attack.

The shutout marked the second of the season for UCF keeper Kaina Cesar, as she stopped all four shots that were sent her way on the night to move to 3-2-1 on the year. The UCF defense combined to limit CU All-American and recent MAC Hermann Trophy Mid-Season Watch List honoree Hope Leyba to just one shot on the evening.

The contest marked the fifth annual Space Game for UCF in which the team donned Canaveral blue uniforms. The Space Game celebrates the university’s deep ties to the Kennedy Space Center and the space program that dates back to the school’s inception in 1963. UCF women’s soccer moved to 2-2-1 all-time in Space Games with the triumph.
