Men's Soccer Falls, 3-0, at No. 25 West Virginia

by Ryan Ladika

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The UCF men’s soccer team fell in its Wednesday road midweek matchup against the No. 25 West Virginia Mountaineers, 2-0, at Dick Dlesk Stadium Oct. 21.

The result dropped the Knights to 6-4-3 on the season overall, including 2-3-1 in Sun Belt action, while the Mountaineers improved to 7-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play.

The Knights more than matched the Mountaineers shot-for-shot throughout the first 45 minutes, producing a 9-7 first-half advantage in offensive attempts, but a pair of Pablo Pozos goals within two minutes of each other gave West Virginia a two-score edge at the halftime whistle.

The Mountaineers later added a third tally early in the second half, pushing their lead to 3-0 in the 48th minute of play.

UCF, despite producing 16 total shot attempts and six on goal, could not solve the West Virginia defensive scheme and suffered a defeat in shutout fashion for just the third time in 13 matches this fall.

Goalkeeper Matisse Hébert produced a strong showing between the posts in spite of the Mountaineers' three scores, turning in his third five-plus-save performance of the fall campaign, joining his efforts at VCU Sept. 11 (eight saves) and at James Madison Sept. 18 (five saves).

Opening kick is set for 5 p.m. from the UCF Soccer Complex and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
