Second-Half Surge Lifts Women’s Soccer to 3-1 Victory Over Oklahoma State

ORLANDO – Ainsley Moy recorded the first brace of her career as the UCF women’s soccer team scored three second-half goals to defeat Oklahoma State, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The victory marked the Knights’ third straight win, improving their record to 8-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Big 12 play. With the loss, Oklahoma State fell to 5-6-3 overall and 1-4-1 in conference action.

“Today was a grind. Sunday matches are never easy after a road game on Thursday, and this week was especially challenging coming off such an emotional match at TCU,” head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. “It probably wasn’t our prettiest performance of the season, but the team found a way to get it done. I’m just happy that we stuck together and ultimately broke through.”

With the match still scoreless midway through the second half, Moy drew a penalty in the 68th minute. The junior calmly converted the ensuing penalty kick, burying it inside the left post for her first goal of the season to give UCF a 1-0 advantage.

Just two minutes later, Ella Holloran weaved through traffic and found an open Moy in front of goal, where the junior finished from the top of the six-yard box to double UCF’s lead. The strike marked Moy’s second goal of the match and season, moving her into second place on the team with 11 points.

Oklahoma State got a goal back in the 75th minute as Emma Jensen’s shot ricocheted off the post and right to her teammate Jada Moorman to pull the Cowgirls within 2-1.

With OK State pushing for an equalizer, UCF was awarded a penalty kick after a VAR review determined a foul had occurred in the box against Tyra Eriksen. The sophomore calmly converted from the spot for her third goal of the season, extending the Knights’ lead and putting the match out of reach.

Eriksen’s score concluded a busy stretch of a combined four goals in an eight-minute span.

Oklahoma State applied pressure over the final 15 minutes, firing six shots in an attempt to get back into the match, but the UCF defense stood firm to secure the 3-1 victory.

Moy, Naomi Clark, Gabi Berchon and Kalena Bellini paced to UCF offense with three shots apiece, while Moy led the way with the pair of goals. Holloran led the way in assists by dishing out her first of the season.

The reigning Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week Kaïna Cesar moved to 5-2-1 on the year in goal for the Knights after notching a total of four saves on the afternoon.

During UCF’s current three-match winning streak, the Black and Gold have earned victories over Oklahoma State, defending Big 12 champion TCU, and then-No. 17 Colorado.
