ORLANDO – UCF women’s golf finished the final 18 holes of the 22nd Annual Cougar Classic on Tuesday afternoon, finishing 11th with a final team score of 867 (+15).
The Knights competed against a strong field that included reigning SEC champions Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida, who claimed the Cougar Classic title.
Senior Molly Smith captured her first top-10 finish of the season, finishing with a 209 (-4) after climbing seven spots on the leaderboard during her final round. Smith tallied five birdies in both her first and third rounds, carding a 68 (-3) and 73 (+2) on day one before closing with another 68 (-3) on day two.
Freshman Ayana Hiranaka made an impressive collegiate debut, finishing tied for 15th. The freshman carded a 70 (-1) and 71 (E) on her first day of play, then finished consistently with a 72 (+1) on her final day, tallying 10 birdies on the week.
Mila Jurine and One Kashima played steady throughout the tournament. Jurine recorded 40 pars on her way to a 219 (+6), while Kashima tallied 37 pars and finished with a 227 (+14). Jurine tied for sixth in the field in total pars and finished tied for 48th overall, while Kashima ranked tied for 17th in pars and tied for 81st overall.
Jamie Camero came in at 95th closing with a 237 (+24), and Kinga Kusmierska who was playing as an individual finished tied for 55th with a score of 220 (+7).
The Knights will return to the course on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Belmar Golf Club for the Schooner Classic, hosted by Oklahoma.
