PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 13 UCF women’s soccer team couldn’t overcome a four-goal first-half deficit, as it fell to Brown University on Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-0 at Stevenson-Princince Field in Providence.
The loss marked the first of the season for the Knights, as it fell to 4-1-0 with the result. Brown improved to 4-2-0 with the victory.
In UCF’s first trip to Rhode Island in program history, the Bears wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 90 seconds into the match. Brown’s Corine Gregory delivered a pass to Georgia Steinbach in the center of the box, and Steinbach capitalized, finding the back of the net for the game’s opening goal and giving the Bears an early 1-0 lead.
With Naomi Clark having got off a couple of shots over the next few minutes and the Knights looking to even things up, Brown then added its second goal of the contest in the 29th minute to take a 2-0 advantage. Claire Silverman fed a pass to Gregory in the box and Gregory managed to beat the UCF defense.
The Bears then made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute, as Audrey Lam fed a ball from the left side to Ayla Sahin and Sahin one-touched the pass into the back of the net for Brown’s third score.
Jael-Marie Guy capped an impressive first half for the Bears with a goal in the 39th minute. Guy took the ball in the left corner and went around a couple of Black and Gold defenders on her way to slot one home to make it 4-0.
In the second half, Brown’s Gregory scored her second goal of the contest in the 48th minute to add to its lead. Maja Cenanovic later intercepted a pass for the Bears in the 72nd minute and buried another goal in the back of the net for the home team to make it 6-0.
Brown later capped the outing with its seventh goal of the game in the 83rd minute. Off a corner kick, the ball found the back of the net on a UCF own goal to extend the Bears’ advantage to 7-0.
Overall, the Bears outshot the Knight 12-6 and 6-2 on frame. Brown has won four Ivy League titles and made four NCAA Tournament appearances over the last seven seasons.
The seven-goal output marked Brown’s most since Nov. 5, 2022, when it defeated Springfield College by a score of 7-2.
The 4-0-0 start prior to Sunday’s result was UCF’s best start to a season since last year when the Black and Gold opened with the program’s best start at the Division I level with a 5-0-0 record.

The Knights will return home to host in-state foe North Florida on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. The Black and Gold will then open their fourth season of competition in the Big 12 Conference by hosting No. 17 Texas Tech on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
