TAMPA, Fla. – UCF women’s tennis wrapped up a three-day stay at the Bedford Cup on Sunday, highlighted by junior Vladislava Andreevskaya’s runner-up finish in the White singles flight. The tournament was held Sept. 25-27 at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex.
Andreevskaya put together three consecutive victories to earn a spot in Sunday’s White flight championship match, continuing her success at the Bedford Cup after going unbeaten at the event during her sophomore campaign.
The Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, native opened play Friday with a three-set victory over FIU’s Victoria Papadopoulou, 6-0, 5-7, [10-0].
Andreevskaya continued her run Saturday with a pair of victories. In the quarterfinals, she outlasted Florida State’s Ariana Gilbert, 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), [10-4], to advance to the semifinals. She then secured her place in the final with a straight-set victory over Stetson’s Lena Karolina Hornecka, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Her run came to an end Sunday against Florida Atlantic’s Anastasiya Kolyada, who claimed the White singles flight title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Olivia Bergler also picked up a singles victory for the Knights in the Gold singles flight. Bergler opened the tournament with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win over Florida State’s Nicole Okhtenberg before meeting North Florida’s Gabriella Goyins in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Bergler took the opening set before Goyins rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, [10-7] victory.
Jade Psonka rounded out UCF’s singles contingent in the Gold flight, falling to Florida Gulf Coast’s Nora Svensson, 6-2, 6-2, in Friday’s opening round.
Bergler and Psonka also teamed up in the Blue doubles flight, falling to Florida Gulf Coast’s Ashley Matz and Maria Vargas, 6-4, in the opening round.
The Knights concluded the weekend with four singles victories, led by Andreevskaya’s three-win run to the White singles flight championship match.
