ORLANDO – UCF football offensive lineman Owen Spell has been named to the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. The award honors Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players who lead through community service while excelling in the classroom and on the field.
As college football’s premier award for community service, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recognizes student-athletes who use their platforms to serve others and make a positive impact in their communities. Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and former University of Florida quarterback, the award reflects his lifelong commitment to leadership, service and unity.
Spell appeared in all 12 of UCF's contests in 2025, earning two starts at left tackle and saw time at both tackle positions throughout the season. He played a part in UCF's nod as Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week, as the unit allowed zero sacks in the Knights' 34-9 victory over North Carolina (Sept. 20).
Off the field, Spell was named CSC Academic All-District and earned a spot on the 2025 Big 12 All-Academic Team. Maintaining a remarkable GPA, Spell is well on his way to earning a degree in the health space. He leads UCF in community service hours amongst returners as he heads into his second season with the Knights. He has participated in food drives, teach-ins at local elementary schools and more.
Offensive lineman Paul Rubelt represented the Knights on the 2025 Wuerffel Trophy watch list last season.
Among the 113 nominees, the Big Ten leads all conferences with 18 nominees, followed by the ACC, SEC and Big 12 each with 15 nominees. The 2026 Watch List highlights student-athletes whose leadership and service extend far beyond the football field.
