ORLANDO – The No. 20 UCF women’s tennis team has been selected to compete in Los Angeles during the 2027 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend, following the annual ITA Kickoff Draft.
The Knights will open the event against No. 22 California before facing either No. 15 UCLA or No. 21 TCU on the second day of competition. Hosted by UCLA at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, the event is scheduled for Jan. 22-24, 2027.
The Knights were originally scheduled to compete in the Los Angeles Regional in 2025, but head coach Bryan Koniecko elected to withdraw the team due to the ongoing wildfires in California. As a result, UCF will now be looking to make its first trip to UCLA’s home courts during the 2027 ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft gives teams across the country the opportunity to select their preferred host site for the following season’s Kickoff Weekend. Coaches consider a variety of factors, including travel logistics and potential opponents, making the draft one of the most unique and anticipated events on the college tennis calendar.
The 14 host sites are determined by the previous season’s year-end rankings, while the remaining teams select their destinations in order of finish, beginning with the No. 15-ranked team and continuing until all spots are filled.
Coming off their second consecutive Big 12 regular-season title, the Knights will join UCLA, California and TCU in competing for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Additional details regarding UCF’s 2026-27 schedule will be announced later this summer.
