ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF Athletics is proud to announce its support of the 61 Foundation and The Shawn Clark Legacy Foundation, an initiative dedicated to prioritizing the physical and mental health of coaches through awareness, prevention and support.
The initiative, inspired by the life and legacy of former UCF offensive line coach Shawn Clark, who passed away suddenly in fall 2025, aims to create meaningful change across the coaching profession. Founded by his wife, Jonelle Clark, The Shawn Clark Legacy Foundation is committed to helping coaches and their families by encouraging proactive health care and building a culture that values wellness as much as performance.
At the center of the effort is “The 61 Initiative,” a flagship prevention program designed to encourage coaches to commit to annual physical and mental health screenings prior to each season. The program also emphasizes education, open dialogue and access to support systems for coaches, staff and their families.
“Shawn Clark meant so much to our program and to me personally,” said Scott Frost, UCF head football coach. “He was an outstanding coach, but more importantly, he was a great husband, father and teammate. This initiative is about honoring Shawn by taking care of the people who give so much to this profession. If we can help even one coach step back, prioritize their health and be there longer for their family, then we’re making a real difference.”
The foundation’s work focuses on three key pillars: raising awareness around the unique physical and mental health challenges within the coaching profession, providing proactive health screenings and standing alongside coaches and families during times of adversity.
“In his time here, Shawn quickly became a strong contributor to our department and will always be part of UCF,” said Terry Mohajir, UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics. “We’re proud to support the 61 Foundation and The Shawn Clark Legacy Foundation in their mission to care for the whole coach. We ask so much of our coaches, and this initiative will ensure they’re supported mentally, physically and personally.”
Through its partnership and support, UCF Athletics will help amplify the foundation’s mission, encourage participation in The 61 Initiative and continue fostering a culture where health and wellness are prioritized across the coaching community.
The Shawn Clark Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the lives of coaches through awareness, prevention and support programs that promote long-term well-being.
