RALEIGH, North Carolina – Against a strong No. 8 NC State squad, the No. 20 UCF women’s tennis team couldn’t find its footing on Saturday, falling 4-0 as the Wolfpack secured the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play.
NC State swiftly claimed the early advantage, taking victories on courts one and three in doubles. Marina Gatell and Jantje Tilbuerger dropped a 6-2 decision on the top court to the third-ranked duo in the nation, Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe. Meanwhile, Olivia Bergler and Donatell Guarnieri fell 6-1 on court three.
Despite the early deficit, UCF showed signs of resistance in singles, with multiple courts remaining competitive as the match progressed. Gatell turned in a strong opening set on court three and was ahead 6-4, 5-2 against No. 49 Gabriella Broadfoot before the match went unfinished. Tilbuerger and Olivia Bergler also remained in contention on courts one and two, respectively.
The Wolfpack, however, controlled the back half of the lineup to seal the result. Straight-set victories on courts four, five and six pushed NC State over the finish line, sending the Wolfpack to the Sweet Sixteen for the sixth consecutive year.
