Baseball Moves Up in National Polls, Ranked No. 12 by D1Baseball

by James Warnick

ORLANDO – Having won four consecutive Big 12 series, which included taking two of three at No. 11 West Virginia over the weekend, the UCF baseball team has moved up in the national polls this week and is ranked as high as No. 12 by D1Baseball.

The Knights are a perfect 4-for-4 in Big 12 series on the season with home sweeps over Oklahoma State and the defending Big 12 tournament champion Arizona Wildcats, as well as road victories at the preseason favorite TCU Horned Frogs and the defending regular season champion Mountaineers. UCF is 20-9 on the season and alone atop the Big 12 standings with a 10-2 conference record. The 10-2 start to conference play matches UCF’s best start since 2014.

The No. 12 ranking is the Black and Gold’s highest since March 9, 2020, when it too was ranked 12th just before the remainder of the season was canceled that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Knights are also ranked 13th this week by Perfect Game, 16th on the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, and 17th by both Baseball America and the NCBWA.

With the No. 12 ranking on the D1Baseball Week 9 Poll, UCF is the highest ranked squad in the conference. West Virginia checks in this week at No. 17, while Arizona State is ranked 20th.

On Deck

The Knights will return home to host Stetson in midweek action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for 407 Knight at John Euliano Park. Following Tuesday, UCF will return to the road for another key Big 12 series at the second place Kansas Jayhawks Friday to Sunday in Lawrence.
