CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina - The UCF men’s golf team travels to Chapel Hill this weekend to compete in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, its final tournament before the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship.
The tournament will be played on the home course of the North Carolina men’s and women’s programs, Finley Golf Course, a 7,084-yard layout that recently underwent a significant renovation. The course earned recognition as Golf Digest’s 2024 “Best Transformation,” presenting a refreshed and more demanding test for participating teams.
UCF enters a competitive 15-team field that includes several nationally ranked programs. Host No. 11 North Carolina headlines the group, alongside Duke, Houston, Texas A&M, Florida Atlantic, Nebraska, Furman, Gardner-Webb, UNC Wilmington, East Tennessee State, Elon, Davidson, Campbell and Kennesaw State.
The field features three teams ranked inside the top 30 and eight within the top 100, offering a strong test for the Knights as postseason play approaches.
The Knights hit the road last weekend to Mobile, Alabama, in a tournament that saw a strong opening round for the Knights. After firing a 6-under-par team performance, they positioned themselves amongst the leaders in 2nd place.
However, the team faced challenges in the second round, posting a 14-over-par performance that dropped it to seventh in the standings. UCF responded with a steady final round, climbing one spot to secure a sixth-place finish and close the tournament on a more positive note.
Individually, Hans Risvaer and Lucas Dutartre led the way, each finishing at 1-over-par and tied for 24th overall. Risvaer saved his best for last as he shot a clean 3-under par on the final day of play, tallying 6 birdies. Dutartre showed consistency throughout the event, opening with an even-par round before following it up with a 1-under effort in the second round.
With one final tune-up before the conference championship, the Knights will look to build on their strong starts while improving consistency across rounds. A solid performance in Chapel Hill could provide valuable momentum and confidence as UCF prepares for the postseason ahead.
