Dominant First Round from Men's Golf Highlights Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

by Alex Clough

GULF SHORES, Alabama - A strong opening round propelled the UCF men’s tennis team to a sixth-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, carding an 859 (+7) for another promising top-10 placement.

On Monday, the Black and Gold started the tournament firing on all cylinders, concluding the opening 18 holes six-under-par and in second place. The overall stroke score of 278 matched the team’s lowest on a par-71 course this season, as each participating Knight shot at least even-par.

While UCF was riding high, the second half of Monday’s slate proved to be a more challenging task. Apart from a one-under-par showing from Lucas Dutartre, the Knights completed the second round with a 298 (+14), shifting their spot on the team leaderboard to seventh.

A more balanced showing on Tuesday jumped the Black and Gold up into sixth, carding a 283 (-1) in the third and final round.

The UCF lineup was led by Hans Risvaer, who led the Knights on Tuesday with an impressive three-under-par performance which included six birdies. Continuing his strong campaign, the Miami native placed in a tie for 24th overall.

Dutartre joined him with a 214 stroke score in Alabama, authoring a consistent three rounds highlighted by a one-under-par second 18. His highest overall finish of the season comes at the perfect time as UCF gears up for its final regular-season tournament next month.

Making his first start of the spring, Jakob Stubhaug’s steady opening round score of 70 led the redshirt senior to a 31st-place finish. Another Knight who carded a brilliant first-round score, Clemente Silva, stayed competitive down the stretch with an even-par final round to sustain his spot in 38th.

While riding the wave of a dazzling spring season, Chase Haygood couldn’t find his stride after a two-under-par showing in the first round, eventually concluding play in 51st. However, the senior still possesses one of the team’s best scoring averages.

Competing as an individual, Cam Goldknopf fired off five birdies in the first round en route to a 70, which kept him among the mix even after a four-over-par third round to conclude his eighth tournament in 31st place.

The Knights will conclude their regular season in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, next week, as they’ll compete in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate from April 11-12 at the Finley Golf Club.
