ORLANDO - After a fourth-place finish at the ECU Collegiate, men’s golf is hitting the road again this week, traveling to Alabama to compete in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, a two-day event beginning Monday, March 30, as they gear up for Big 12 play.
UCF will be joined in the 13-team field by Kansas State, New Orleans, Samford, Houston Christian, Valparaiso, Marshall, South Alabama, Texas State, Loyola Chicago, Nicholls State, UAB and Delaware.
The teams will compete on the Falls Course of Magnolia Grove, which will play as a par 71 at 7,239 yards. Magnolia Grove was recently named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses" by Golf World Magazine readers.
Individually, the Knights are coming off encouraging performances, none more notable than Chase Haygood’s. The sophomore battled through a difficult opening round (+6) on one of the toughest courses UCF has faced this season, before rallying with rounds of -2 and even par to finish tied for eighth. It marked his second top-10 finish of the year and reinforced his ability to respond under pressure.
Hans Risvaer also turned in a steady performance, finishing inside the top 15 with rounds of +1, +2 and +3, giving UCF another reliable presence near the top of the leaderboard.
This week’s tournament marks the third straight year UCF has competed in Mobile. The Knights finished second a year ago, narrowly trailing the hosting South Alabama after posting a team score of -9.
With the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and the UNC Collegiate ahead, UCF is entering a critical stretch. These final tune-ups will prepare the Knights to take on the depth and intensity of Big 12 competition.
