ORLANDO – Head Coach Scott Frost has announced the addition of David Overstreet II as UCF football’s cornerbacks coach. Overstreet brings eight seasons of NFL experience to the Knights, most recently serving on staff with the Dallas Cowboys.

“Any time you can bring in someone with David’s level of NFL experience, it’s a win for your program. He’s spent a ton of time in the pros and helped develop some young, talented guys. He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest of levels, and I think our guys will learn a lot from him.”

A Dallas native, Overstreet coached with the Cowboys this past season as the secondary/cornerbacks coach.

Prior to 2025, Overstreet spent three seasons with the Chicago Bears, starting as the assistant defensive backs coach in 2022 before exclusively coaching the nickel position in 2024. The Bears snagged 47 interceptions during his tenure, the sixth-most in the NFL during that time. While in Chicago, Overstreet coached budding cornerback Jaylon Johnson to two Pro Bowl nods. Johnson snatched four interceptions in 2023 and earned Second Team All-Pro honors. The 2022 version of the Bears’ roster was the youngest in the league; Overstreet helped guide them to top 10 rankings in completions allowed (323) and interception yards (201).

Before Chicago, Overstreet broke into the NFL coaching ranks with the Indianapolis Colts. He began as a defensive quality control assistant in 2018 before rising to assistant defensive backs coach in 2021. The Colts nabbed 64 interceptions during Overstreet’s three seasons, tied for third most over that time. Indianapolis tallied 19 of those picks in 2021, good enough for a tie for third in the league that season.

Prior to jumping to the NFL, Overstreet spent two seasons at Garden City Community College in Kansas, serving as the defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He helped pilot the program to the NJCAA National Championship in 2016. The following season saw Garden City record 18 interceptions, the sixth-best in the NJCAA in 2017.

Overstreet began his coaching career in 2015 by coaching cornerbacks at Holmes Community College in Mississippi. He owned a marketing and sales firm before jumping back into football.

A four-year starter at safety for Missouri from 2002-06, Overstreet earned First Team All-Big 12 honors twice. He earned his bachelor’s degree in graphic design in 2006.
