ORLANDO – The No. 19 women’s team returns to the road this weekend, beginning with a matchup against Iowa State on Friday, March 20. The Knights will then travel to face the No. 48 Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday, March 22.

UCF is set to take on the Cyclones at PM. EST at the Iowa State Tennis Facility before heading to Lawrence, Kansas, where they will meet the Jayhawks at 1 PM inside the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The Knights had yet another perfect weekend at the USTA National Campus, defeating the No. 51 Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, before taking down No. 30 Texas Tech on Sunday.

The Knights dominated the Colorado Buffaloes from start to finish on Friday evening, securing the doubles point in a clean two-court fashion. Though the Buffs struck back in singles, taking court four, Olivia Bergler quickly put the Knights back on track, winning her first court one match of conference play, 6-0, 6-4, against Aya El Sayed. The Knights never looked back from there, quickly securing courts three and two to take the match 4-1.

The Knights got off to a slow start in Sunday’s match against then-No. 30 Texas Tech, narrowly dropping the doubles point. But the Black and Gold quickly erased that early deficit, responding with five first-set wins within the opening hour to seize control of the match.

The equalizer came from Jade Psonka on court six, who delivered her eighth win of the season in commanding fashion, defeating Brownback in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Her victory sparked a decisive stretch, as three more wins followed within 10 minutes: Vladislava Andreevskaya overcoming Sleptsova in a second-set tiebreak, 6-2, 7-6(5) and Bergler with a straight-set victory on court one, taking down Murphy, 7-5, 6-3. Marina Gatell sealed the match, though, coming back from a 4-2 deficit in the second set on court three, she rallied to defeat Mariia Hlahola, 6-4, 6-4.

QUICK HITS

She now boasts an 11-1 dual-match record across the top three courts
  • The squad went a perfect 6-0 against in-state opponents during non-conference play. It marks the best in-state record of any program this season and the strongest in-state showing of the Koniecko era.
  • The Knights' perfect weekend at home extends their home winning streak to 20-straight matches.
  • Jade Psonka has found her stride in conference play, owning an impressive 11-2 mark in court six for the Knights. She has only dropped one match on the court across the Knights' six conference games.
  • Freshman Marina Gatell earned her first clinch on conference season against the Red Raiders this past weekend, securing the Knights' first-ever triumph over Texas Tech. The Mallorca, Spain native owns an 8-1 dual-match record.

THE OPPONENTS

Iowa State
Iowa State enters the weekend looking to snap an eight-match losing streak, holding a 2–10 overall record and sitting at the bottom of the Big 12 standings with a 0–5 conference mark.

The Cyclones feature five newcomers on their roster, led by North Texas transfer Stanislava Shulzhenko, who carries a 5-6 record in dual matches. Shulzhenko, alongside Mari Paz Alberto Vilar, also made history this past fall as the first Cyclone doubles pair to earn a berth in the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Kansas
The Jayhawks look to sweep a two-game home stand this weekend, taking on the Houston Cougars on Friday before welcoming the Knights on Sunday. The squad currently holds a 3-2 Big 12 mark with a 7-7 overall record.

The Jayhawks are 3-3 against ranked opponents this season, most recently defeating then-No. 19 TCU on March 13, in a gritty 4-3 battle. The Jayhawks have two players ranked nationally: No. 53 Kyoka Kubo, who holds a 5-3 record this season. Kubo joins Heike Janse van Vuuren in the doubles rankings, as they are ranked No. 47. The pair is 4-1 on the season.
